Football Food

I had a great time watching this year's Superbowl. But, I must admit, the only running I did was to the grocery store. I didn't plan the menu for this year's festivities until the last minute, so I found myself going to the comfortable standbys of fatty, calorie-dense munchies.

I knew full well what I was doing. But I was like a little kid acting out in complete defiance.

What? Cheese stuffed tater tots wrapped in bacon aren't good for me? Tough!

Processed meat in tube form has more sodium than a salt-lick? Bring on the brats!

I was naughty.

Very naughty.

But I'm a Packer fan, living in Wisconsin, watching my team in the championship game. So, I lived up to all the stereotypes, donned a big foam hat of cheese, and checked out of reality for the day. And now I'm feeling mighty yucky. (Not nearly as yucky had we not won!) But, my body is not happy with me. And mentally, I'm beating myself up a bit.

What do Cheeseheads have for lunch on Superbowl Sunday? Well, brats with grilled onions and kraut with a side of deep fried cheese curds, of course!

And then there were the dips....

I did try to redeem myself with the black bean dip over there. And then I tried a healthy version of jalapeno poppers. And they were pretty good! But it wasn't enough to undo what these little beauties did to me.

I could've done much better with a little more planning. So today I'm planning my menu out for the entire week. Because left to my own spur of the moment decisions...it ain't pretty!

  1. I thought you were probably enjoying the game yesterday! Don't worry - I made up for your non-running, so you're off the hook!

I was lame. I thought I would eat like crazy. I had left over mac & cheese and tater tots. And only two chips in dip. TWO?? Who does that??

  2. RR - You rock! If only your awesome 10 miles could really make up for my zero miles. Two chips? Really? I mean, is that even worth walking to the kitchen?

(And didn't that "Tiny Dancer" Bud commercial totally remind you of Jellyrolls? You so have to request it for me when you're there this month!)

  3. YES!! That was my favorite commercial of the day!

I only had the two chips because I was munching and waiting for my food to heat in the microwave. I would have had more chips, but they weren't crunchy enough for me. The thought of opening a fresh bag seemed like too much work at the time. I was pretty much a zombie!

Okay - this reminds me I really have to type up my Jellyrolls/lost story. It happened in 2002 or 2003 and we all still talk about it!

  4. Don't worry Kelly, Super Bowl foods don't count when your team wins. It's fact. I looked it up. Had the Pack lost though... well, then you'd have something to be concerned about, because guilt mixed with defeat is a major problem, especially in February!

So embrace the win, forget your personal Sunday losses, and start anew. It's a new season, the slate is wiped clean.

    Go get 'em!

It is almost scary how you can make anything sound legit :) Thanks for the pep talk!
